This week we looked at heuristic evaluations and the ten key principles produced by Jakob Nielsen. We also completed an exercise which was to review the translink ni website against these ten principles.

Tottenham Hotspur rebrand

Today the football club I support unveiled a remastered brand identity. The remastered brand is being rolled out on all of the Club’s touchpoints. It will also be seen throughout the stadium for all of the upcoming home matches. The remaster of the brand was created by studio Nomad who have collaborated with brands like: Premier League, Disney+, Sky Sports, Nike, Rolls Royce and many more.

Studio Nomad worked on the remaster over nine months with Tottenham’s in-house creative team and gathered input from over 300 players, fans and staff at the club. Studio Nomad created the new club badge, which is essentially the same just without the text under the badge. They also worked with the designer, Chris Mitchell who came up with the original design of the badge, eighteen years ago.

They reintroduced and modernised the THFC monogram which is originally from the 1950’s, by working with type specialist, Miles Newlyn.

Studio Nomad with the help of F37 Foundry turned the existing Tottenham font into a multiple use typeface.

When the studio was coming up with the new identity they put a focus on the elements of THFC’s past and key features of the club. They created hallmarks for these features like: Bruce Castle, Seven Sisters trees and 1882.

My opinion of the brand remaster is that I think its a good refresh for the club with the return of the monogram and the new typeface. But I think that more could’ve been done with the badge as it pretty much stayed the same with a slight change. I also like the hallmarks that they have brought in as it showcases the identity of the club with the likes of seven sisters being the closest tube station to the ground and also the 1882 hallmark which is the year that the club was founded.

This week we were tasked with reviewing the Translink.co.uk website. The first part of this task was to complete a heuristic evaluation on the website by seeing how it compares to the 10 principles made by Jakob Nielsen.
