This week in our lecture we discussed mobile interfaces and the key elements that combine to create an effective design. I found the different laws to be quite interesting like: Jakob’s law, Fitt’s law, the law of Pragnanz and hicks law.
Named after two psychologists: William Edmund Hick and Ray Hyman, the law states that the more options a person has the longer it will take them to decide which one is the best. A great example of hicks law is the google homepage as its effective in its simplistic giving the user two options which essentially do the same thing.
Miller’s law states that the average person can only keep seven items in their working memory. To use miller’s law in UX the designer should organise content into digestable chunks to help the user to process and understand the content easily. An example of miller’s law in action is the netflix home page were they only show the user six or seven options per row.
