This week we had a workshop on employability and how we can improve our CV’s so that they can look the best for potential employers. We also had a talk on different ways that we can spend our third year whether its a placement, enterprise placement year or a year studying in a different country. It was good hearing the different options to consider for third year, as well as hearing about the university’s edge award that students can do to include on CV’s.

Our lecture this week was on studio etiquette and how we should conduct and present ourselves in meetings, in the studio and over email to colleagues in the workplace.

I had a look at an article that listed ways to become more marketable to employers. The first is to demonstrate your soft skills, skills like teamwork, problem solving and conflict-resolution as these skills are valuable to employers no matter the industry. Another point is to acquire new skills based on the industry.

Another article I seen from medium called “The magic in making yourself marketable to employers” one point that stuck out to me was “speak with employees and recruiters before you apply” it says that large companies will have hundreds of employees and they’ll have CV’s coming in every day, so one of the best ways to stand out is to attend recruiting events, career fairs so that you can get to know the company and so that they’ll recognise your name when it comes across their desk.
