This week we looked at icon design and how it has progressed. I decided to look into icon sets user interfaces.
For every olympic games since the Tokyo games in 1964 there has been icons made for each sport at the olympics, they are simple icons that display the certain sport. What i like about these pictograms is that even some of the first icons still look as if they could be used today, I particularly liked the pictograms from the Sydney games in 2000, with how they included the boomerang in the designs.
Apple have changed their icons on the Mac OS quite drastically over the years, the icons on the left are the old icons from 2012 and the icons on the right are current. They have changed them from being quite detailed and photo-like to a more 2 dimensional design with more colour. I personally prefer the newer icons that apple use as i feel they they have a better theme and are now moe cohesive.
This week we looked at Icons and how designers can use them effectively in their UI’s. I was interested in the fact that some icon set that were created decades ago can still look modern and usable, like most of the olympic icon sets. This week helped me prepare for creating my own icon sets when I am creating my music app.
