Autonomous vehicles are cars that partially or entirely replace the human driver. They respond to traffic and turns and road hazards.

They utilise GPS to locate the vehicle using satellites, Infrared sensors are used to see things like lane markings and pedestrians in low level light. Autonomous vehicles also use prebuilt maps to know their surroundings if the GPS is unavailable, they use cameras and RADAR (Radio Detection and Ranging) which measures the distance between the car and obstacles.

Waymo

Waymo is an app that allows users to call a self driving car to their location to take them to their destination. Users select their destination on the app, which will find the safest pick up and drop off points, the waymo cars can fit up to four people per ride. They then have to press the start button inside the car. Waymo is currently in four cities in the USA: Phoenix, Austin, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
