For our second project we were put into groups to complete a group presentation on design. My group consisted of myself, Finn, Erin, Lucy and Matthew. Our chosen topic was on the design systems used in the Olympic games.

We each chose a specific year to base our slides on, I chose the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona, we decided on similar designs for our slides

The 1992 Barcelona Olympic games was one of the most successful modern day Olympics, it was the first and only time Spain have hosted the games. 169 nations and 9356 athletes participated in the games and it was the first time in three decades that there was no boycott. There were also 257 events.

The logo for the Barcelona 1992 summer games was made by Josep Maria Trias and was created to represent a person jumping an obstacle (the five Olympic rings), the blue in the logo represents the blue in the Mediterranean, the yellow is the sun and the open sign of hospitality.

The 1992 summer games mascot was created by Javier Mariscal and was called Cobi as a reference to the Barcelona 92 Olympic organizing committee, The organizing committee for the games held a competition between six designers to create a mascot and a jury of experts chose Javier Mariscal’s design.

There were 58 posters for the 1992 Olympic games, they were split into 4 different collections: the official Olympic posters, painters posters, designers posters and the photographic sports posters . The one I have chosen is one of the official posters created by Josep M. Trias. There were also posters made for each of the sports as well as pictograms, the person in each pictogram is in the same design as the person in the main poster but the pictograms are blue and white instead of being multicoloured.

The torch for the 1992 games was designed by Andre Ricard, it was silver and gold colors but was made from aluminum and plastic and it was 66cm. The torch’s design was based on the amphora and the Latin sail.
