During my first year in my second semester. I completed a project that was to create and design an original banking brand that will also be used for an app. This project was probably the most content heavy project i’ve completed as it was throughout the whole semester.
The first thing i started on for this project was my brand values. I mind mapped some values and then picked the ones that i thought aligned with my brand and how I wanted it to come across.
After completing my brand values I then moved on to my brand name, I started with a mind map of potential candidates for the name. I then picked the five names that I liked and tried to chose one, but after I spoke with my tutor he told me to come up with a name that was less bank orientated, so I came up with the name “level”.
With the name picked the next step of the project was to choose a typeface. I narrowed my choices of type down to N27 or Chaney. I ultimately decided to chose chaney as I liked the different weights of the typeface and the potential to create something unique with it.
I then focused on creating my own wordmark for my brand. I started by sketching out some potential designs for my own wordmark:
I wanted my wordmark to look quite simple but still sleek and professional. I used different styles of the typeface with all of the letters being extended and the V in the middle being ultra extended. I used different styles to incorporate the name of the brand to make the wordmark level and symmetrical.
When I was creating the logo for my own brand I wanted to make something that was level and symmetrical so that it would match with the brand name. I made a start by sketching some designs:
I decided to chose the design I’ve circled on my sketchbook. I was able to create the Logo digitally by making both of the L’s in my wordmark into vectors and positioning them to create my design. I chose this logo as I think that it incorporates my brand name level and I think that it matches the aesthetic of my brand.
The last piece of the brand scheme that i completed was the colour scheme. I used adobe colour to find the one that I thought would suit the brand. For my main colour I chose a shade of purple that I thought was quite vibrant and exciting but also professional and sleek. I also wanted to deviate from the usual blue that banks use as I think its a well oversaturated market.
I then completed a style tile to showcase and brand along with a bank card.
I then started to implement my brand by creating and designing a landing page for a website. I started by sketching my idea of how I wanted it to look, I then took it over to figma where I then created the high resolution version.
Having finished all the other aspects of the brand, all I had to do was add them to my brand guidelines document. The part of the guidelines that I found challenging was the text and making sure that I wasn’t going overboard or writing too little when it came to each slide of the document. After finishing the document I was happy to see everything I worked on presented well in the document.
